My husband is a gift from God

My husband is one of the greatest gifts God has given me.  Before I met him, my life was dull and unhappy.  But when he came into my life my world has changed; it's now like a paradise with rainbows and butterflies!

Cliche as it may sound but I love my husband with all my hypothalamus! I love him because:

1. He is crazier than me.
2. He makes me laugh when I'm feeling down
3. He apologizes first even if it's my fault.
4. He makes me feel like I'm the prettiest and sexiest woman on earth!
5. He knows how to appreciate simple things I do
6. He hurries home from work just to see me and kiss me.
7. He never fails to surprise me.
8. He trusts me and I trust him.
9. He knows how to handle my mood swings and still keeps his cool.
10. We both know that we can work out anything together.
11. He can cook delicious food!
12. He is sooooo romantic and passionate.
13. He is smart and good-looking.
14. He keeps an eye on me when we are in public and crowded places.
15. He knows how to sacrifice not only his wants but also his needs for my happiness.
16. He plans for our future.
17. His smile takes my breath away.
18. I love the security I feel when I am with him.
19. He always makes me laugh hard by dancing.
20. He taught and showed me the real meaning of love.

I am thankful that 28 years ago, my husband was born. So thank you lord for the wonderful gift you gave me. :-) Happy Birthday my dear Yogo!

Filipino food wishlist: part 1

Living away from my country is not easy, especially if I see photos of Filipino food posted in the social media.  My husband and I cook Filipino food here so as not to miss it that much. But still, it could not suffice our cravings considering that we don't have the same ingredients here as what we have in the Philippines.

So I made a list of Filipino food that I would definitely chow down, without thinking twice, when I get home.

  • Balut:  I want to eat this with vinegar and salt.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c0/Balut_yolk.JPG
  • Ripe and green mangoes
Left: Ripe Mango; Right: Green Mango w/ bagoong
  • Fishballs and kikiam
  • Chicharon

  • Crabs

  • Shrimps

These food cravings make me homesick. I am literally salivating now!!! Okay, I will just stop right now and continue torturing myself on my next blog.  ;-)

A humble sports hero insulted by an arrogant singer

These past few days, I've read a lot of posts showing exasperation to the iconic Justin Bieber; it's actually trending on Twitter. I really wondered why and luckily I stumbled upon this article: Justin Bieber straddles the line

http://ph.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/sportztackle/justin-bieber-straddles-line-020243842.html
I was not a fan nor a hater of JB.  I was just kind of neutral about him.  However, after reading this article and watching the photo about JB mocking our beloved Manny Pacquiao my perception about him has totally changed. I understand that he is still a young kid trying to be funny and showing support to Mayweather.  But what he did went overboard, especially for us Filipinos.

I don't personally know JB so I must not judge the totality of him.  But what he did made me think of him as a kid out of control, whose fame and wealth made him forget to keep his feet on the ground.  He entered the world of showbiz and music industry, so, he must accept the fact that he no longer has the luxury of doing such things despite how innocent his intentions are. I agree with the writer of the blog that JB, in all aspects, should be more sensitive and more responsible for his actions, especially that he is one of the leading icons of the international pop culture.

No matter how JB insulted our mighty Manny Pacquiao, Filipinos still look up to Manny as a true sports hero.  He has shown us hope and inspiration.  Many of us are aware of his good character. Regardless of his fame and wealth, he still knows how to be humble and show compassion to his fellowmen.

Both JB and Manny have won different kinds of competition:  Manny has won many titles in the boxing world by his strength and agility, but he won our hearts through his kindness and humility.  On the other hand, JB has won his fame and pop title by his voice and talent, but earned our dismay and disrespect through his insensitivity and arrogance.  Character wise, JB is no match with Manny Pacquiao.

It's a Morph Thing!

My boredom made me do crazy things like morphing.  Haven't you heard of this? Well, according to the World Dictionary, MORPHING means a computer technique used for graphics and in films, in which one image is gradually transformed into another image without individual changes being noticeable in the process.  I'm not a graphic artist who can do this amazing thing but there is this website http://www.morphthing.com/ who can help you morph any faces of the universe, including you  and your partner.  The steps is as easy as ABC and the instructions are straightforward enough to be understood even by an idiot.  You just need to upload clear pictures of people you want to morph. In my case, of course, I morphed my picture with my husband's to see how our virtual baby looks like.

Tsada!!! Say hello to our baby Chelsea Margeruite Knuttel. Isn't she lovely? Just ignore the orb-like thing, though. ;-) So, what are you waiting for? Go and morph your baby! ;-)

Products that made me blush

I started putting blush on my cheeks when I was still in college because I wanted to hide my anemic skin; it can instantly brighten up my face and fake a rosy cheeks.  I could not live without my blush on in my make up kit and it would be like the end of the world for me if I don't have one!

Picking the right shade and brand of blush is critical as to how it will look like with your skin color or how long will it stay on your skin.  When I was still starting to have the feel of putting on blush make-up, I had difficulties on finding the right product that would give a very natural glow on my cheeks.  But through time and series of trial and error I was able to come across blush-on brands that are true to their indication of what may be expected.

1.  Bench Pretty When Pinched Cheek and Lip Tint

http://www.annluyun.com/2011/01/cheek-lip-tint-herbenchs-pretty-when.html

I started using when I was still in college and struggled on learning how to apply it perfectly.  Cheek tints dry quickly even during the application so my trick was dabbing a very small amount of water to blend it with the tint.  I made it a habit until I was able to perfect the blending without the water's help.  I put this before applying face powder for a natural finish.  This cheek stain, if properly blended, gives you a "just-flushed" skin and stays for around 8 hours.

Cost: $5

2.  Alison Raffaele Skin Inner Glow

http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Alison-Raffaele-Inner-Glow-Gel-Blush-Witty/24050682

I purchased mine in a Beauty Bar shop in Glorietta Manila without reading the reviews first.  Though this product didn't ring a bell to me, I still took the risk of buying this because it is exactly what I was looking for.  I've always wanted to put a "just-pinched" make up on my cheeks that stays long.  I always apply it under face powder for a more natural look and avoid streaky mess.

Cost $25-35

3. Clinique Blushing Blush Powder Blush (Sunset Glow)

http://www.clinique.com/product/1593/5265/Makeup/Blushers/Blushing-Blush-Powder-Blush/index.tmpl
I love gel-based or water-based blush-on but if I need a little touch-up during the day powder blush is what I reach for.  This particular product blends perfectly to the intensity you want to achieve with its angled brush.  Also, I love its chic look mirrored compact.

Cost $35-38

Davao City: A safe haven for good citizens; a dying pit for criminals

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Davao_City_Aerial_View.jpg

It pisses me off when someone says that Davao city is not a safe place to be, well, if that someone will go to Davao city it will no longer be safe. :p Some people quickly make a sweeping assumption from everything they hear in the news. Can you please do a research first? A bomb that explodes in Maguindanao or Basilan doesn't reach Davao, even the tiniest particles of its debris won't make its way there. The city is a law and order place. The city's current mayor and her father who is now the vice mayor (the city's ex-mayor) rule the city with iron fist. As they say, less crime doesn't mean no crime, but Davao has the least crime rate in all the cities in the Philippines. You can even walk along the busiest streets in Davao without worrying that someone might snatch your bag.

I've read some news in the internet that among the cities in the Philippines, Davao city has the most advanced and state-of-the-art Traffic Monitoring Center which is patterned after Los Angeles, California. IBM and the local government helped the city improve its existing Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) by integrating city operations into a single system to enhance the public safety operations in the city. It serves as the center for a balanced and harmonious coordination regarding public safety with Davao city police office, city health office and city social services and devlopment offices, central 911, fire bureau, and many more. In addition, it is equipped with a Weather Monitoring and Flood Alert System which aids communication of all obtained information with the responders and concerned officials. Davao has a 911 emergency response unit that responds to any emergency situation quickly. If you are worrying about the nearby cities, don't be because there are regular checkpoints in Davao city and its boundaries as safeguard against terrorism or any illegal activities that want to get in.

Just a piece of advice, if you are an illegal drug user/dealer or a criminal, don't ever set a foot on Davao city's ground, otherwise, you'll end up sleeping forever 6 feet below the ground. We have this so-called DDS (Davao Death Squad) who rides a motorcycle and shoots illegal drug users, dealers, and criminals. It is even rumored that some illegal drug addicts prefer to get themselves locked behind bars than be killed by the DDS on the streets. Thus, don't do your monkey business in Davao if you don't want to go bankrupt or, worse, get killed by the vigilants.

My fave hair products: Dr. Organic shampoo and conditioner

Due to the dramatic change of weather, my hair also went brittle dramatically.  I've struggled with dryness and brittleness of my hair for months and tried various products but nothing has worked.  It was my husband who discovered these Dr. Organic Shampoo and Conditioner in the grocery shelves.  The packaging says "The results speak for themselves," and that has managed to capture my curiosity so I bought it without thinking twice.

A soothing conditioner suitable for all hair types formulated with Organic Aloe Vera, Shea butter, Hydrolyzed milk protein, Panthenol, Sunflower oil and Vitamin E. This incredibly effective formulation gently reinforces the hair’s natural condition by coating and penetrating the external cellular keratin fibre of each follicle, allowing the Aloe Vera complex to soothe, nourish and moisturize the condition of the hair leaving it soft, shiny and protected from the damaging effects of the sun. - http://www.drorganic.co.uk/aloe-products.asp

This gentle, yet powerfully purifying and repairing shampoo, enriched with Organic Tea Tree oil and Aloe Vera, gently cleanses the hair and scalp leaving it instantly revitalised, fresh and hydrated. It provides an invigorating effect while soothing and moisturising the scalp. Dr Organic Tea Tree shampoo is ideal for both normal and oily hair and scalp types. - http://www.drorganic.co.uk/tea-tree-products.asp

This is the first pair of shampoo + conditioner I bought from Dr. Organic and these products surpassed my expectation. Straight after rinsing I could see the results; my hair went smooth and silky, as if I just got out from a hair salon.  I just put an ample amount on my palm and lather it on my hair, mostly on the tips. These products really leave my hair tangle-free with volume and shine. And it has a very pleasant scent! The 250ml shampoo and conditioner costs 7 euros each.

Try it and be organic! :)

Wealth without dineros

We are happy and wealthy! :)

Last Friday night when everybody was drinking and laughing, one of my Hungarian friends and I were sharing thoughts about the Filipinos' attitude of being blithe and carefree. Shee told me stories about working with Filipino people in Dubai and seeing them as happy people. We Filipinos do not take life seriously in a sense that we do not let our problems in life, no matter how serious it is, stand in our way to happiness. I was happy hearing positive things about Filipinos from a European point of view.  I don't know if she was just ingratiating or did not want to be tactless or just did not want me to be uncomfortable with her. However, there was something that she said that really struck me most.

Hu friend: In Dubai, I had a lot of Filipino colleagues who always laugh at things. They don't take life seriously, I don't mean the negative way, but even if they have big problems whether at work or at home, they still managed to smile or even laugh. When I asked them how are they, they always replied "I'm doing good" with a smile though I know that they were not really fine.
Me: Yeah we just laugh out our problems. Life is too short to spend it on negativity and pessimism. Even though our country has never made its way to go out from poverty, we are still happy.
Hu Friend: You know what, it really depends on how you define wealth and poverty. If you define wealth with money and earthly materials, then you are poor. But if you define wealth with natural resources and happiness in life then you are wealthy.

Most of us define wealth as a state of being rich in money, having a lot of luxurious properties, jewelries and other worldly things; while we define poverty as a state of having a little or no money at all or shall I say the exact opposite of wealth. I could not agree more with my colleague.Wealth can be achieved not solely by earning money but collecting happiness in life. Wealth and riches do not  necessarily appropriate great happiness, but the conscious decision to look forward to gratification and contentment.

How about you? Who do you think is rich and poor? To which category do you belong? As I said, it really depends on you. Well for me, the Philippines is a rich country and the Filipinos are really wealthy! :-)

Spending the weekend wallet at Vidam Park

In Budapest, your entire entertainment checklist will be completely ticked of.  Most of the city's activity areas and key sights are just a stone's throw away from each other. Városliget, the city park, is surrounded by an amusement park, museum, zoo, jogging trails, circus, the famous Széchenyi spa and many more. Last year, my husband and I went to the animal zoo in Városliget and planned to go to  amusement park which is standing beside it. However, the plan was deferred due to some reasons.  Now that we ran out of reasons not to go, we have finally enjoyed ourselves in Vidám Park.

Horror House

The horror house is the most anticipated attraction for me when it comes to amusement parks. I felt like I was a kid pulling my dad towards the horror house and feeling excited about riding the wagon and frightening myself out.  I was really expecting that someone, whose face is covered with horror make up, would touch me and thrill me to the bone.  This is how horror houses scare people, well at least in my country.  However, I was quite disappointed because not even a single strand of my hair stood up in fright.  Their presentation is quite creepy though.

Tower: Marc and I before riding up. Don't expect pictures of us after the ride. :p
Tower
When we were on the edge of the tower, I felt like the pressure was making my guts wrench.  Before I caught my breath, we were shot back up again at a force that made me feel like I am dying. If you really want to challenge yourself and measure your courage, then you must ride this.

http://deadflowers5.livejournal.com/
I wasn't really scared of the speed and the curves of this ride. I was more alarmed of its foundation and what it's made of - wood. In addition, this roller coaster has been in the business for 90 years...woah, that is scarier than the horror house!

Break dance
This should be called a "break neck." hahaha

Magic Castle
This attraction is really true to its name; it has a lot of surprises inside. Go inside and be dazed! :)

Rolling barrel outside the Magic Castle
No, no, that girl is not me. We just wore the same color of shirt. But both of us lost our balance and rolled over and over. I just hope that she did not get any scrapes and bruises like I do.

Top Spin
I did not dare to ride this. I just couldn't stand the thought of being spun.

Bump Cars
My Car
This is the activity of the day that I enjoyed most.  I had fun bumping strangers recklessly, especially my husband.  The funny thing is that I see the same faces playing over and over again, and that does not exempt us. haha

Sky Flyer
This ride has a lot of spinning that made me really sick...and tired.

Go Cart
The best part of this ride is that I defeated my husband on this race without mercy. :p

Are you stuck on what to spend with your family, boyfriend, friends, or pet on the weekend? Why don't you give Vidam Park a consideration?  It only costs 4.900 forint per person above 140cm and cheaper if you stand below. Unluckily, I stand higher than the height limit (whispers: actually I'm happy with it and you know what I mean. hahaha)  The entrance fee is good for almost all rides. There are, however, some additional fees on some rides but it's not that pricey - maximum 500 ft per ride.  There are also stands for gastronomy inside the park.

For more information, visit their page at: http://www.vidampark.hu/2009/eng/

Have FUN!!!

Frankfurt, Hessen, Germany

My husband and I chose Germany to be our vacation destination because I wanted to meet Marc's relatives.  We traveled there by plane ride and landed in Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, which is serviced by low-cost airlines like Ryan Air and Wizz Air. The airport is an hour away from Frankfurt am Main but can be a half-hour drive depending on how hard you step on the gas pedal. We spent the first 2 days in Frankfurt and stayed at Onkel Jurgen's house.

Frankfurt am Main (pronounced as Mine) may not be the Hessian capital, but it is the largest city, the most vibrant, and boisterous city of the state.  As an economic giant in the industrial region of the Rhine-Main Triangle, it attracts thousands of expats, tourists, and big investors.  To feed your curiosity here are some snapshots of our vacation.

Oper Frankfurt
This is the historical old opera house of Frankfurt.  It was destroyed during the World War II but then rebuilt in the 1980's and now used for concerts and plays.

This is a typical German house.

Somewhere near Goetheplatz. :)

Study this picture carefully and you will discover how on earth did he do it. :p

A gorgeous lady is standing in front of town hall of Römerberg. This is where Onkel Jurgen and Tante Vera united in wedlock. Ayyeee :)

The Eiserner Steg (Love Bridge). Lovers lock their padlock with their names embossed, engraved, or imprinted on it and throw the key into the river to secure their love. Sweet!!!

If you are planning to visit the love bridge, bring your own love locks to make it worth while.  But if in case you forget to bring your own, you can just erase the names imprinted on one of the love locks and replace it with your names. Haha. Just kidding!

A view of the city.

I wanted to try the typical German food, aside from the sausages. Tante Vera suggested  this food - Boiled Pork Ribs with Sauerkraut. I liked the taste of it but I loved my husband's order more, which resulted into swapping of ordered food. Hehe :)

Of course, this blog won't be complete without my picture on it. This is me sitting after a long and tiring shopping day at Main Taunus Zentrum.

My Personal Choices of Face Powder

Finding the right face powder is as tricky as finding the right man for you.  There are a lot of face powders who have attractive packaging promising you things that aren't real, just like some men. :p  I myself spent more than 5 years in finding the right face powder for me that conforms absolutely to the description the product claims.  During my quest of the perfect brand, I've tried some face powders that are worth your penny. A perfect face powder for me sets up my make up a smooth and even complexion and here are some brands of face powders that deserve a good review from me.

1. VMV Illuminants Brilliant Finish 25 Powder Foundation (Price: $46)

http://www.vmvhypoallergenics.com/shop-by-concern/photoaging/illuminants-brilliant-finish-25-powder-foundation.html

My bestfriend (Tattet) and I used this powder when we were still in college. We no longer buy this product because it's way too pricey.  Funny thing is, we can no longer afford this now but we we were able to afford this when we were still students. What the??? Anyways, the reason I put this on my number one list is that this is the best face powder I have ever used in my whole life.  I only put one covering in the morning and that is good for the whole day, even until class dismissal in the afternoon.  This product makes even your tiniest pores invisible - oh that was exaggerated! Seriously, I had a creamy soft skin in my face when I used this.

2. Clinique Stay-matte sheer pressed powder oil free (Price: $32)

I bought this powder here in Budapest not because of the reviews I have read but because of the friendly sales lady who assisted me well.  If the basis of my purchase would mainly be based on reviews, I would have bought a MAC pressed powder.  But when I came inside the MAC shop in Westend Center in Budapest, the sales lady ignored me at first and then spoke to me unprofessionally.  So I decided to raise my left brows at her and exit the store. I passed by the Clinique shop and went in to browse.  The friendly sales lady attended to me immediately and recommended me this product. I have been using it for 3 days already and I'm happy with it. This product is true to its name as my skin stayed matte most of the day, though I sometimes do one touch up a day.  I alternate this with my VMV face powder when I don't go outdoors.

3. VMV So Fine Pressed Powder (Price: $38)

I bought this one in the Philippines because I know I can't buy this product in Budapest.  This is one of the best powders I have ever tried and it does exactly what it says in its package.  I use this when I have outdoor activities because it keeps my face look fresh for hours. It has a soft container that keeps your compact powder from breaking in case you accidentally drop it. Just make sure that you don't soil it with dirt!

4. Maybelline Clear Smooth Extra Shine Free (Price: $5)
I've tried using this when I was still working in the Philippines. I topped it over my BB cream and it gave me a healthy and glowing skin.  It gives a light and natural coverage.  So if you plan to put face powder on the beach, I recommend this product since it is only light and doesn't leave your face cakey.

It really depends on you on what product you are willing to spend your money to.  There are powders designed for your skin type and the ball is in your court in finding the right one.  If you are confused, you better ask the sales lady because some of them are really trained for that.  Good luck pals! :-)

5 Reasons why I love Budapest (Part 5): Hungarian People

When I moved to Budapest, I expected to experience a culture shock, yet due to the kindness and hospitality of the Hungarians I have experienced the exact opposite.

As a person who came from a country where smiling is a common gesture, I smile to people whose eyes meet mine.  I did not understand why some of the people here don't smile back at me.  But as days passed by, I have understood the reason why.   Hungary was under a communist era and they have experienced being dominated. Thus, people here are expected to be serious and deep.  They have the tendency to build a high wall before befriending you. But once you get in, you will see their sincerity and genuine care.  They invest time and emotions in people who can potentially stay around for a lifetime.

Some of my Hungarian friends say that most of them are pessimistic. They are aware that we don't live in the best of all possible worlds.  They have the tendency to avoid the world's ambiguity. Realism is more valued than optimism.

In any situation, a handshake is a polite way to approach when you first meet someone in Hungary.  It is also common here to kiss cheek to cheek when greeting to friends or even to acquaintances.  So don't get jealous if a hot girl kisses your partner on the cheeks. :p

Here are some famous Hungarian people who made it to the top.

A Miraculous Novena Prayer

I can clearly remember a personal experience of a powerful novena that first occurred when I was still a fresh graduate searching for my first job.  Like any fresh graduate, I was so eager to acquire my first job right after graduation and frustrated when I failed to have one.  It was my mom who gave me a pamphlet of the Infant Jesus of Prague Novena Prayer and told me that it can really help me achieve my purpose.  Being an obedient daughter, I took mom's advice and started to diligently pray the novena.

O Jesus, Who has said, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened," through the intercession of Mary, Your Most Holy Mother, I knock, I seek, I ask that my prayer be granted.

(Make your request)
O Jesus, Who has said, "All that you ask of the Father in My Name, He will grant you," through the intercession of Mary Your Most Holy Mother, I humbly and urgently ask your Father in your name that my prayer will be granted.

(Make your request)
O Jesus, Who has said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away but My word shall not pass away," through the intercession of Mary Your Most Holy Mother, I feel confident that my prayer will be granted.

(Make your request)

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Divine Infant Jesus, I know You love me and would never leave me. I thank You for Your close Presence in my life.
Miraculous Infant, I believe in Your promise of peace, blessings, and freedom from want. I place every need and care in Your hands.
Lord Jesus, may I always trust in Your generous mercy and love. I want to honor and praise You, now and forever. Amen.

Note: Pray this novena consecutively every hour for 9 hours.  It will not be called novena if you won't complete the 9 hours.

In the novena, I asked God to help me land a job before my birthday, yes I was demanding.  I nearly lost hope on my birthday because instead of landing a job in a corporate office, I landed on a hospital bench watching over my sister who was then confined.  When the clock struck 13:00, a power supply company called to invite me for a pre-employment exam.  In supplication, I asked God for his assistance and guidance. Finally, I got it! It was not the last because almost all of my previous jobs were acquired through this Novena .  I don't believe that the companies I've previously worked for hired me for my competencies and skills alone; it was God who looked out for my best interest and I know He had a perfect job fit for me.

In addition to that, I also included my mother and sister who were stricken by sickness years ago. My sister underwent two surgeries in one operation - ruptured ovarian cyst and appendectomy.  I prayed the Novena more often for my sister's fast recovery.  We were glad that the operation went well.  However, a few months has passed when my mother was diagnosed with a Stage 2 Breast Cancer and it was the biggest challenge our family has ever faced.  This time, I prayed the novena harder everyday even at work.  The operation was successful and my mom's chemotherapy session was shortened into 6 months.  We felt extremely blessed. My mom's cancer-free now for 10 years.  God has touched my mom, healed her and granted sufficient grace to make it through. It is important to keep in mind and heart that God never gives up on us.  We just have to ask God in supplication and He will provide.

If you think that you've already done everything to surpass a problem or achieve a dream but still failed, give this novena prayer a try. God answers all our prayers in his own ways and time.  God is wonderful. Just have faith.

Weekend at Tihany, Lake Balaton

A weekend escape from all the weekly stress is crucial for keeping your sanity. Spontaneously, we have decided among friends to spend a weekend at Balaton Lake and more specifically at the peaceful town of Tihany. Balaton is the largest shallow lake in Central Europe. It is a 3-hour fast-train ride from Budapest Déli and the one way ticket costs at around 9 euros.

Tihany is a historical district and one of the main towns of Balaton. It is famous for its historical remnants of the monastery, the unique landscape and the recreational features of Lake Balaton. We got off at Balatonfüred and took a bus for our rented Apartment. I was amazed by the number of summer houses for rent. I have actually seen more of bricked cottages for rent than hotel rooms that we usually see in cities. We stayed in Szilvia apartment http://szilviaapartman.webnode.hu/, which is only a few meters away from cafe's, the church, souvenir shops, mini grocery store and of course, the lake. We were lucky that on our last day, we were able to experience the Goat Nail Festival. It is a major event in the unusual sheep herding, Mutton stew cooking, dog pageant, wine tasting and stick climbing competition. Moreover, Tihany has a widespread reputation for the echo and we did enjoy listening to the echoes of the animal sounds we were mimicking. We had experienced a lot of adventure on a low budget. The more experiences you try the more exciting life can be. To share the experience with you my dear readers, here are some snapshots for you to see.
